The Coming Soon! Box Office Report has been updated with the weekend studio estimates. Be sure to stay tuned there on Monday afternoon for the final figures.
In a weekend where the top four films from last week remained in their spots, New Line's Freddy vs. Jason held on to first place despite dropping a hefty 63%. The horror match-up added $13.5 million to bring its impressive two-week total to $61.5 million.
Sony's S.W.A.T stayed in second place with $10.8 million for a three-week total of $88.1 million, Kevin Costner's Open Range was again in third with $9.4 million to bring the two-week cume to $29.2 million and Disney's Freaky Friday added $9.4 million in fourth for a strong performance of $74.5 million after three weeks.
Of the three newcomers, Jackie Chan's The Medallion fared best rounding out the top five and earning $8.2 million from 2,648 theaters.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Seabiscuit keep going strong, while Uptown Girls took a 50% plunge in its sophomore frame.
Dimension's new My Boss's Daughter barely snuck into the top ten with $5 million from 2,201 locations. Paramount's Marci X, starring Lisa Kudrow and Damon Wayans, has disaster written all over it. The comedy was only able to gather $856,000 in 1,200 theaters for the seventeenth spot.
